Stephen Pearce Pottery

stephen pearceThe story begins in 1952 with a dream. Stephen's father Philip Pearce woke one morning to tell his wife Lucy about a man in a pub in Youghal he had met in his sleep. Lucy had had the same dream, and so off with Philip to meet Willie Greene, the last in a long line of craft potters in east Cork who was to teach Philip all about pottery and clay.
Philip began Shanagarry Pottery soon after this encounter, initially in the front room of his house on a very humble scale. He had a very clear vision of his own style and the shapes he wanted to create - it just didn't happen to fit at the time in a country besotted with bone china, printed flowers and gold rims! Philip stuck to his design principles and over the years became recognised as a serious and respected design brand.
